  1. I’ve heard historians claim this happened in reverse during the Little Ice Age. The cold wrecked France’s Northern vineyards leaving the South as the sole source of french wine. Beer got a foothold near the English channel and der Rhine River. Absinthe became a competitor as well, leading of course to the French Revolution.
