Being Kitty Oliver's Mom, I partake in Dr. Franks Wine on a regular and experimental level. I can honestly say that my visiters ALWAYS request the Dr's Riesling (dry and semi-dry). No contest! My partiality is minor....Laura Hirt

Hello Chris,

Great post; a few months back we spent 4 days on the Finger Lakes and made it to about 20 wineries. One of our most memorable days spent was at Dr Franks. The staff, facility and wines were just what the doctor ordered and it was a beautiful day. Riesling is the Finger Lakes top wine, and all the wineries produce some very nice Rieslings with little differences from lake to lake. Dr Franks Rieslings in particular, lends itself to more mineral notes than others. Perhaps the slate in the soil passes this on to the fruit. Dr Franks also does reds just about as good as they can get in the Finger Lakes. Rieslings, Chardonnays, Ice Wines and some lesser known native varietals can be found on either of the lakes for really great prices. In keeping with your theme the food is fantastic as well. Check my July archive if you have a chance for some notes from our visit.

Happy Sipping!
